I stepped out of my tastefully furnished apartment right into my SUV and headed towards the Favour Shopping Mall for my Christmas shopping.
Talking about Christmas, it is a season where I usually show off my affluence; the labour of my hands – the cumulative bumper harvest of all my toiling from January to December.
I alighted from my car with an air of importance and just then, I ran into a close business associate.
“Hey Dolapo good to see you” she called out. “You are looking so sweet as ever.”
“My dear,” I smiled “if I don’t take care of myself, “Who will?”
“How was your journey?” she continued.
“London, Paris, and New-York, Very expensive but it was worth it.” I replied.
“Cheers then and do have a lovely day.” she bade me farewell.
I walked into the magnificent building in grand style; I had barely entered the shopping mall when I bumped into my hairdresser.
“Hey welcome back madam.” she exclaimed. “How was your journey?”
“London, Paris, and New-York, very expensive, but it was worth it.”
“Do have I lovely day ma!” she waved.
I began my shopping without much ado and just as I was about to leave, I spotted a precious jewel at a section of the show glass; on a closer look, I discovered to my surprise that it has no price tag!
“Excuse me girl,” I beckoned to a sales attendant nearby. “How much is that jewel over there?”
“It is not for sale ma.” she replied politely.
“Then why is it on display?” I probed.
“It actually belongs to a very wealthy man.” She explained, “But he is offering it for free to as many as wants it.”
“You must be kidding.” I laughed. “No sane person can ever give out such a beautiful jewel.”
“You have a point ma.” She continued. “This kind hearted wealthy man had to pay the price because it is vey costly.
“Can anything ever be free in this life?” I asked in unbelief.
“Of course,” the young lady smiled. “Salvation, for instance is free. Our Lord Jesus Christ paid the price for sin; I’m not referring to a subsidized payment but a 100% payment for the remission of sins which NO MAN CAN EVER PAY.
“It can’t be that simple.” I shook my head. “Listen carefully as I give you a download of my spiritual CV: I was born into a Christian family, baptized on the eight day, passed through the necessary sacraments according to my creed.
“Madam,” She explained, Ephesians 2:8, 9 says: ‘for by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.’”
“Salvation is for EVERYBODY – the rich, poor, educated, uneducated, aristo, area-boys, the self-righteous man, the worst sinner, the old, young……. The list is endless. As long as you believe that the price He paid is enough for your salavation. “The works of your hands cannot fulfill the Lord’s demand.”
At that point, I felt every resistance breaking off me, so I cried out:
“I need no other argument, I need no other plea…. it is enough! Yes it is enough that Jesus died and that He died for me.”
Immediately I let go of my self-sufficiency and accepted the FREE GIFT WHICH IS ENOUGH for my salvation.
Brethren, the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross IS ENOUGH for your salvation.
