SCENE EIGHT
INT. THE HOME OF THE ALAKIJA’S – KITCHEN. EVENING
We see ENIOLA cooking in the kitchen. Few minutes later, her husband, THOMAS walks in unawares and tiptoes towards the direction of a large glass bowl containing sizeable pieces of fried chicken. He Opens it gently and just as he was about to take some, she turns impulsively.
ENIOLA
(Smiling)
Caught in the act.
THOMAS
(Playfully)
Don’t be ridiculous, I merely wanted to check
If the meat was well fried.
ENIOLA
Thank you Mr Inspector; your mind should be at rest
that a seasoned cook is in charge. There is no
cause for alarm. Don’t you ever forget my nick-name,
olo wo sibi.
THOMAS
Darling, sincerely, I want a piece of the spicy chicken.
ENIOLA
(Moving closer to him)
For your child-like sincerity,
You will get more than a piece.
(She opens the large dish)
Here, take only two pieces; and don’t come asking
for more or else, I’ll ground you from this kitchen.
The young man helps himself with the meat an just as he was returning to the sitting room, his cell phone rings.
THOMAS
(Into Phone)
Hello, who is this?
EXT. SHOPPING MALL. EVENING
We see JAMES, a young man in his early thirties leaning on a railing. A cell phone glued to his ear with one arm while he holds a paper bag with the other.
JAMES
(With a feminine voice)
You are talking to a lost but found friend.
INTERCUT BETWEEN THOMAS AND JAMES
THOMAS
Sorry lady, I don’t think your voice sounds familiar.
JAMES
Come of it Tommy! Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten
about me completely.
THOMAS
Wait a minute; is that James?
JAMES
Who else can it be? Well, I’m back in the country
to carry on with our unfinished business.
THOMAS
(Trembling)
Okay… let… let me call you… back…
END OF INTERCUT
THOMAS looks around him restlessly. With a feeling of insecurity, he moves away from the sitting room to the bedroom.
With trembling hands, he dials the number.
INTERCUT BETWEEN THOMAS AND JAMES.
THOMAS
Hello?
JAMES
That’s my man. I was just about calling you.
I thought you would never call back;
Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Tommy,
I really missed you. Where can we meet?
THOMAS
Hey look here James; I’m a married man now.
Whatever we felt for each other, was in the past.
JAMES
(Laughing hoarsely)
We’ll see to that lover boy!
THOMAS
It’s over between the two of us. Period!
END OF INTERCUT
THOMAS terminates the call abruptly and looks up only to find his wife staring at him.
