Fresh trickle of joyful tears traded position with the erstwhile excruciating tears from Mabel’s fatigued eyes. A broad smile spread across the oblong face of the new mother as she reached out to receive her newborn from the doctor.
‘Please make sure you feed him very well,’ the medical personnel advised.
‘Okay Doctor.’
Just as the eager mother was about to commence her first maternal assignment, the baby opened his tiny mouth and revealed a complete set of teeth!
The lady trembled as though she was suffering from Parkinson syndrome, while the Doctor’s eyeballs almost flew off his spectacles.
You can tell that fairy tale to the birds! But frankly speaking, some people actually want to make swift progress in life without having to go through the different stages of growth. Unfortunately, the only place where accomplishment comes before hard work is in the dictionary.
Being a good writer, for instance, does not happen by mere wishful thinking, rather in the words of Jeff Goins:
‘Good writers practice. They take the time to write, crafting and editing a piece until it’s just right. They spend hours and days, just revising.’
In other words, ‘A professional writer is an amateur who didn’t quit’ (Robert Bach)
At this juncture, please permit me to take you through the different types of writing:
• Expository writing: this explains subject oriented writing style where the author focuses on telling you about a given topic / subject without voicing their personal opinions. E.g. textbooks, how-to-articles etc.
• Persuasive writing: this brings people to your point of view. E.g. editorials, ad reviews, letter of recommendation etc.
• Descriptive writing: this involves more of showing the scene to the reader than outright telling the story.
• Narrative writing: this involves one person telling the story.
Whichever style you choose, it’s up to you. The most important thing is to take that bold step today by writing.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with a STEP!
